Summary
Following the Second World War, two fathers, one German and one French, meet for the first time in a long time. In the presence of their children, they discuss their dreams of creating a lasting friendship between peoples, and the importance of language learning to foster exchanges.
A short fragment of the story
Our father wants his children to learn German! He wants his children to become friends with Germans! My mother doesn't really want that, she knew Paris under the occupation...
I am European, as our fathers wanted, to preserve peace between peoples and when the bombs fall in the East, my heart trembles. Will the promise that Europe made to our fathers hold?
