Summary
War is like being in an earthquake. You know this house is falling down, but you can't go out, you can't protect the people you love, you can't protect your family and your children, and most of all you can't go on because the doors are closed.

Why this story is important
This brief testimony returns an important point of view, often belittled or set aside: that of those who migrate. We are used to talking about migrations and migrants and it is easy to fall into the feel-good rhetoric of the migrant to be protected or safeguarded. On the contrary, Mirvat is keen to emphasize her uniqueness as a human being: she is not the only one who fled the war. Being a refugee is not her identity.
How this story was created
This story was made within the #SiamoStorie project of the social enterprise Siamo Coop, made up of Italians, migrants and refugees. It was decided to tell the story of Mervat Sayegh, who comes from Syria. The aim was to return her point of view as a migrant who fled the war and above all as a human being. Thanks to the Ariostea Library and the Ferrara Municipal Theater Foundation.
